Location, Location, Location! Colorado Blvd takes care of all
Location is the prime solution for a great time with no stress of taxis, sober rides, designated drivers, or a long cold walk at night. Our solution for you is a night on Colorado Blvd in Old Town Pasadena. It includes everything from amazing restaurants, local style bars, premium hotels, and a great crowd to compliment it. We checked out all the Old Town hot spots, and are sending you the right way!
First, make sure to book a hotel out there for a night. The Courtyard Marriott has the most prime location, with just walking distance to the main street, Colorado Blvd. The rates are extremely affordable, especially if you’re sharing the room with a few friends; and literally, the service is impeccable. You will not see a sullen face in that hotel. Check in generally starts at around 3:00PM, but there’s a good chance your room may be ready prior to that. If not, come prepared to hang poolside for a bit. The feel of the hotel fits in with the ‘Old Town’ theme perfectly. Some of the amenities include: Free high-speed Internet, Fitness center, Business center, Restaurant on-site, Pool, & Room Service, but the all-star attraction of the courtyard is the central location.
THE MELTING POT
Fondue?? Wait, what’s that?! Possibly the most amazing four-course dining experience you will ever endure, and perfect for groups. This isn’t a regular restaurant, it’s completely interactive, everything from the servers to cooking your own food. Don’t be scared boys; they’ll guide you through the whole process!
Currently, they have a special running for their ‘Big Night Out’ Menu, featuring many different flavors from the Pacific Islands. The first course that you start with is the Cheese Fondue, which is made with a beer base. The waiter cooks it right on your table and offers bread, vegetables, and apples for dipping. Yes…apples and cheese is amazing. If you are into simple tastes, we would recommend the Cheddar Cheese Fondue, and if you’re more adventurous, try out the Fiesta Cheese Fondue. Next course coming are the salads. The Pacific Islands’ Salad is the lettuce wraps, or you can choose from their custom salads made with homemade dressings. For the third course, you choose what type of meat you want. The Fondue Fusion includes Lobster Tail, Sesame Crusted Teriyaki Sirloin, Citrus Infused Pork Tenderloin, Sushi-Grade Ahi Tuna, Garlic Chili Chicken Breast, Kiwi Lime Shrimp, Spring Vegetable Dumplings, and Fresh Vegetables. Once you pick that, you move on to your cooking style. We tried Mojo Style, which is described as Caribbean-seasoned bouillon with distinctive flavors of fresh garlic with a citrus flair. They bring you this entire course raw, and guide you as to how to cook it in the broth. Once again, this is perfect for a big group since there are so many tastes, but you may end up fighting over it.
Moving on to one of the most memorable parts of the meal, the chocolate fondue dessert. They’ll offer you a menu of several different types of amazing chocolate to choose from. Once selected, just like the rest of your meal, will be cooked right in front of you. They offer you strawberries, bananas, angel food cake, brownies, cheesecake, marshmallows, and rice crispy treats to dip into your chocolate.
This four-course meal will turn into your new birthday dinner hot spot. From the amazing tastes, to the outstanding and friendly service, this is a must-stop on Colorado Blvd. But make sure you make reservations, it gets busy fast.
Now that you’re unpacked and ready to move on to the nightlife, let’s walk you through the perfect pub crawl. You’ll notice off many side streets, there are little local bars. Don’t underestimate them, those local spots can have the best deals and offer the most fun.
Ahh yes, let’s start our crawl at one end of the blvd. With an unreal selection of beers on tap, this is the perfect place to start. Each Yard House location features a transparent keg room containing more than 600 barrels, some 1,000 gallons of beer, and an endless fleet of tap handles - 100 to 250 - depending on the location. The menu of American cuisine includes an impressive selection of appetizers, salads, pastas, sandwiches, individual-size pizzas, seafood, steaks, ribs and chops. Make sure when you go, that you try something new!
Probably the spot that you’ll want to spend most of your night; this bar’s got it all. A great, friendly scene of people, and fast bartenders to ease the wait. There are booths all throughout to sit at and order food, or you can even play Wii. The bar also includes air hockey, pool tables, foosball, and arcade games, pretty much the staples to have a good time.
FREDDIE’S 35ER BAR
Yes, it’s more of a dive bar, and a great way to end the night off. It’s super easy entry, great deals on booze, and an easy going crowd.
Now that you’re all warm, fuzzy, and tired, you don’t have to worry about getting a ride home, you can waltz on down the street right back to your comfortable room. Check out isn’t until 12, so you’ll be able to get a good night’s rest, and possibly some pool action in the morning. Old Town Pasadena’s lively and amazing historic feel really is a completely different atmosphere than Hollywood, Vegas, or New York City. Definitely a must see city.
